The Principles concerning the protection of personal data in the workplaces: guidelines for employee monitoring is not mandatory in any way. The Guidelines are intended to enable employers to take detailed and comprehensive consideration when it comes to devising policies on employee surveillance, to avoid violating the law. Non-compliance to the Guidelines in itself will not incur penalty, but if it results in violating the law, the employer shall take the legal consequences.
